What is evolution?
An explanation of the origin of all living things
Starts from the idea we all have one common ancestor
Describe natural selection
Nature selects features they want from plants and animals based on what suited the environment around them better
What evidence do we have for evolution?
Fossil records (show how much or how little things have changed over time)
Embryology (embryos of different species are remarkably similar)
Common features (humans share similar features with lions and chimps)
DNA(carries genetic information, random mutations brought by nature)
What are vestigial organs + examples
Organs that no longer have a purpose
E.G. Tailbone, appendix and wisdom teeth
What is a literalists response to fossils?
They are evidence of noahs ark as the fossils are left over animals that died in the flood
How is DNA mutated?
The mixing of genes during sex and mistakes being made when genes are copied
What is Christians response to common features?
God used a similar design across a range of species (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it)
