- Indirect
- ELLLLLA (L3 in dung beetle is infective)
- Larvae migrate to thoracic
aorta then migrate to esophagus

What is a prepatent period (PPP)?
Time from infection until the adult parasite is producing eggs, larvae or other immature forms.
Sites of Infection: Spirocerca Lupi
– Adults in granulomas in esophagus and stomach
– Larvae in wall of aorta
Pathogenesis/ Lesions:
Spirocerca Lupi
– Larvae scar the aorta
– Clinical signs from granulomas (regurg, dysphagia, etc)
– Osteosarcoma
– Osteopathy of long bones
– Spondylosis of thoracic vertebrae
Clinical Signs: Spirocerca Lupi
– Regurgitation
– Dysphagia (trouble swallowing)
– Emaciation
– Loss of condition
Diagnosis: Spirocerca Lupi
– Eggs sometimes difficult to find in feces/ vomitus
Treatment: Spirocerca Lupi
