The process of influencing an organized group toward accomplishing its goals, Both a science and an art

Insight, motivation, new knowledge and skills, real world application, accountability

Focus on supervisory skills (training, monitoring, and giving feedback)

AOR model
Action observation reflection- leadership development is enhanced when the experience involved three different processes, focuses on how we learn from experience

Upward (superior/boss), horizontal (peer to peer), or downward (to subordinate)

Expert, referent, legitimate, reward, and coercive
Expert Power
Power that comes from having knowledge and experience
Referent power
Comes from the strength of the relationship, including the degree of respect and admiration between parties, the extent to which one is seen as a role model
Legitimate power
Power to make requests/demands deemed appropriate through ones role or position. “Formal authority”
Reward power
Power resulting from control over desired resources
Coercive power
Power resulting from the administration of negative sanctions
