Idioculture
systems of knowledge, beliefs, behaviors and customs shared by members of an interacting group; shared experiences in common, a shared understanding, a shared construction of reality
Role
is the sum total of expectations about the behaviors attached to a particular social status. A social script.
Status
is a position that a person occupies in a social structure: holding multiple statuses simultaneously: i.e. mother, child, father
Subculture
values, beliefs and/or use of material culture set them apart from others in society
Counterculture
values, beliefs and/or behavior are set or positioned against society: i.e. NWA

(borrowing from other cultures), spread of info from other cultures, and adopted

Achieved Status
positions in the social structure that the individuals achieve for themselves: alcoholic, pump, mother, father, judge, doctor, principal
Ascribed Status
individuals are placed in a status that they occupy from birth from which there is no escape: brother, sister, race, gender, slave
Status Symbols
many clues can be detected from status symbols: wedding ring, lab coat, type of car, nice clothes
Role Stain
demands of or roles are such that it is hard for us to meet them all
Status Inconsistency
individual occupies than one statuses that does not mesh with another occupied status: achieved and ascribed status do not mesh
Master Status
white female, age, gender, race would be first before her other status i.e. judge, doctor, mother
Role Exit
disengagement from occupied social role: exes
Role Conflict
the demand of or different roles clash. incompatible expectations arise from two or more social positions
