Ordo Solutis vs. Historia Salutis
Logical order of elements of salvation vs. How God worked in my life history to accomplish salvation or How God worked in history to accomplish salvation.
Arminian ordo solutis

Election (my def)
Before the foundation of the world, God on the basis of foreknown faith, chose in Christ individuals to be heirs of eternal life.
3 Dimensions of Grace
- Grace as God’s unmerited favor (unconditional acceptance)
- Grace as empowerment (equipping for growth and service)
- Grace related to enlivening and cleansing from sin
Common grace
God’s non-redemptive goodness extended to all persons.
Prevenient grace
God restores to the sinner the ability to make a favorable response to God.
Effectual grace/calling
The gracious act of the Holy Spirit in the heart of he elect which infallibly leads to conviction of sin and belief in the gospel.
Union with Christ

Conversion
An act of faith which results in turning from sin to a new life of following Christ who is the only hope for life with God.
Repentance
A change of mind about who is God and what is truly important in my life.
Faith (3 elements)
- Notitia - knowledge
- Assensus - assent
- Fiducia - trust, commitment
Faith (Calvin)
Faith is a firm and certain knowledge of God’s benevolence toward us, founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ, both revealed to our minds and sealed upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
Regeneration
It is the implantation of the new heart, the change of the deepest values from which our acts and attitudes come. It is the change of the basic disposition, direction of the person.
Justification
God’s declaration of righteousness over a sinner at the moment of conversion. This puts the sinner in right relationship with God on the grounds of Jesus’ righteousness. It is forensic, relational, and complete.
