What does Hot 8 look for in a teacher?
Names, hard class, knows sequence.
What is Power 1?
Foundational class that connects breath to movement and focuses on proper alignment for beginners and the basis for harder power classes.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is the process of stilling (nirodha) the distractions in our heart-mind. A path to become whole, unified within yourself and with those around you, to alleviate stress, conflict and suffering.
What are the 8 limbs of Yoga?
Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi.
What are the Yamas?
Ethical precepts of behavior toward others.
Ahimsa - Nonviolence
Satya - Truthfulness
Asteya - Not stealing
Brahmacharya - Chastity, moderation
Aparigraha - Non attachment
What are the Niyamas?
Precepts for the purification of habits in the individual, fostering soulfulness (self-discipline).
Saucha - Cleanliness
Santosha - Contentment
Tapas - Inner fire, perseverance
Svadhyaya - Self Study, Introspection
Isvara Pranidhana - Surrender to higher power
What is Asana?
Physical postures for purification of the body.
What is Pranayama?
Breathwork, expansion of life force for purification of the energy body.

Withdrawal of the senses.

Picking an object of concentration to control the mind.
What is Dhyana?
Meditation, continuous focus. Awakening to one-pointedness.
What is Samadhi?
Complete focus, absorption. Perceiving no division between subject and object.
What are the first 2 limbs of yoga and why are they important?
Yama - moral codes of conduct in relation to others. Niyama - precepts for the purification of habits in the individual, fostering soulfulness (observances of self-discipline).
They are important because they are the basis of right living toward oneself and within society
Who wrote the Yoga Sutras?
Patanjali.
What is Ayurveda?
The Science of Life, the sister science of yoga. Methodology from the Vedas and Upanishads to create balance in the biofunctions of the body.
Where to get inspiration for creating a sequence?
Internet, books, nature, take class, other students and teachers, meditation.
What are the 3 types of adjustments you can do in class?
Demo, physical (not allowed), verbal.
Signs a student is struggling in class and what to do?
Erratic breathing, huffing and puffing, unable to stay upright. Have them sit down, group water break or group breath.
What is Aum (om)?
A is Brahma, creation, the waking state
U is Vishnu, the Preserver, the dream state,
M is Shiva the Destroyer, deep sleep,
then Samadhi, silence at the end.
What are the 3 Doshas?
Vata (air), Pitta (fire), Kapha (earth).
What are the 7 Chakras?
Root - Muladhara - Red - Survival - Earth;
Sacral - Svadhisthana - Orange - Emotional identity, Desire - Water;
Naval - Manipura - Yellow - Ego/Willpower - Fire;
Heart - Anahata - Green - Love, Peace, Acceptance - Air;
Throat - Vishuddha - Blue - Communication, Self Expression, Creativity - Sound;

What are contraindications to doing yoga?
Pregnancy, drugs/alcohol, heart or blood pressure conditions.
What is the difference between a sprain and a strain?
Sprain - injury to the ligament, longer to heal. Strain - injury to muscle.

Namaste is a salutation, a recognition of the divine awareness in the self and in the other.
