Firstly, Morris interests the reader is by establishing how dramatic the events surrounding the explorers’ accident were.

The title of the text immediatly highlights the writers doubt about the explorers and the more important consequence
“Russians threatened to send in military planes”, the use of this in the first sentence of the text exaggerates the problems that the explorers can cause
“The rescue involved the Royal Navy, the RAF and British coastguards”, by listing the three rescue agencies highlights the emergency and the amount of help needed to save the explorers whic raises the drama

Ironic reference in the inverted commas ,””trusty helicopter”” serves to undermine their judgement

the inclusion of information like costs ,”tens of thousands of pounds” emphasises how expensive it had been
