A

Owen wrote the poem while in the trenches he wrote it to express the horrors of war opposed to internalising it.Inspired by writers like Sasoon who critiqued patriotism and had extreme patriotism attitudes.

Pararhyme such as “knife us” “nervous” evoke a sense of unease and dissatisfaction in the reader,as they anticipate a full rhyme but are constantly denied this mirrors the solders anxious and anticipation of conflict their minds are unsettled by the nervous tension of waiting battle.
