“Mind forged manacles

A

The semantic field of oppression is so deep it has formed “manacles” arounds the individual’s minds, thus they are confined to the misery that the authorities have imprisoned them to.The symbolsim of menacles potrays them to be mtal bands that are wrapped together mimicking how the people in London are inextricably intertwined with misery.

Q

“In every infant’s cry of fear”

A

The anaphora mimics the cyclical torturing that the citizens in London have to go through due to the church. There is mass suffering everywhere even the “infants” aren’t exempt from this. The oxymoron of “infant” juxtaposes how the innocence of youth has been corrupted and stolen as they have already been tainted by this exploitative setting.
