What is the poem about?
Boys steals boat and rows onto lake. His pride and power is strong at the start however the growing peak of the mountain and power of nature disturbs him and he turns around. Boy feels insignificant in comparison.
“A little boat”. “Elfin pinnace”
Pride is growing at the start of poem he feels important. “Heaving through the water like a swan” adds to this power.
“Huge peak, black and huge”
In shock at what is before him. Repetition of huge shows the effect on boys confidence, pride and vocabulary. It doesn’t read as well as start of poem. Drained of power.
One long stanza
Overwhelming aspect reflects the speakers overwhelming experience with nature.
Enjambment
Overwhelming erge to communicate, overwhelmed by nature.
“No”
Repetition- shows how speakers confidence has disappeared and is focusing on what he doesn’t know instead of what he does know.
