Eyes Flashcards
(10 cards)
Horner’s and CN3 palsy both cause ptosis. How to differentiate?
Horner’s: ptosis, miosis (SMALL pupil), anhidrosis
CN3 palsy: ptosis, DILATED pupil, down & out
Acute glaucoma and anterior uveitis both cause painful vision loss. How to differentiate?
Glaucoma: DILATED pupil,
Anterior uveitis: CONSTRICTED irregular pupil, redness focussed around iris
Latanoprost mechanism of action
Increases uveoscleral outflow
Note causes brown eye pigmentation
Glaucoma tx
Acetazolamide mechanism of action
Reduces aqueous production
Glaucoma tx
Pilocarpine mechanism of action
Increases uveoscleral outflow, constricts pupil
Glaucoma tx
Cyclopentolate mechanism of action
Dilates eye (used for anterior uveitis)
Timolol mechanism of action
Reduces aqueous production
Glaucoma tx
Brimonidine mechanism of action
alpha agonist
Reduces aqueous production + increases outflow
Avoid if taking MAOI, TA. Can worsen coronary insufficiency
