What is the most common form of family in society?
The nuclear family
What 4 functions does the nuclear family perform?
Reproductive - essential to survive in society
Sexual- serves both society and the individual
Economic- becomes productive workers and provide for the family
Educational- children learn norms and values by primary socialisation from parents
What is the primary socialisation of children?
The child’s future brims beliefs and values are created when they are young by parents so they are excepted in wider society
What is stabilisation of adult personalities?
The family relives the stresses of work and is called the warm bath theory. By providing a warm welcome and stable environment to relax.
What is reliability?
It means anyone conducting the research should get similar results
What is validity?
Data that shows the true picture of what is being studied e.g people not liking maths and the results are 70% don’t like maths
What is representativeness?
Data which is representative of the wider population that the researcher is interested in
What is positivism?
See human or social behaviour as a product of organisation of society and choices inflicted by natural sciences
What is interpretivism?
That human behaviour is the product of social laws and we bullied or own society through are own choices
What are structured interviews?
An interviewer reading out a list of questions normally a questionnaire
What is an instructed interview?
A more guided conversation with informal talk about the subject research
What is a non participant observation?
When a researcher sits or observes an activity e.g a class room with no interaction
What is a participant observation?
The researcher involving themselves in the group in order to study and get data
What does covert mean?
The researcher hides the fact that they are researching and pretends to be a member of a group
