- family disorganisation, during slavery, couple sold separate, kid stay with mum, created pattern, women socialised independent
- high unemployment due to racism, men less able provide, cause desertion or marital breakdown
Asian families - why big households ?
- Usually have larger families B 4.5, P 4.1 compared white 2.3 and households have 3 generations
- younger age profile, more likely have kids younger
- value of extended family in Asian culture from religion, need to marry , their duty
