Features of energy supplies Flashcards

1
Q

3 properties of Fossil fuels

A

-High energy density allows for use in many applications such as the smelting of metal ores
-Finite , means they are unsustainable and are depleting which is bad for areas dependent on them for industry such as Midlands in the UK

Q

3 properties of Nuclear ( fission )

A

-High technology requirements
-Finite
-Very high energy density , 1kg of uranium can release as much energy as 13 tonnes of coal

Q

3 properties of Renewables

A

-Intermittent , so not available all the time e.g solar and wind
-Low energy density , increases amount of equipment required , but Biofuels have sightly higher energy density and could replace liquid vehicle fuels
-Low environmental impacts , try to avoid scenic and urban areas with low aesthetics e.g windfarms
