1
Q
List the features of science
A
- Universal acceptance of paradigms, not too many conflicting approaches like psychology
- Objectivity – no biases or opinions, only facts
- Falsifiability – can be proven wrong through scientific testing (E.g, Freud’s theories cannot be proven wrong)
- Replicability – can be repeated under different contexts to see if results are reliable. Protects against scientific fraud, flukes and sees if its reliable and valid
- Theory construction – theories made via hypotheses and re-testing. Deductive and Inductive reasoning
2
Q
Deductive reasoning order
A
- Propose a theory
- Develop a hypothesis
- Test this hypothesis
- Come to a conclusion
3
Q
Inductive reasoning order
A
- Observe a natural phenomenon from the environment
- Develop a hypothesis
- Conduct a test/some research to test this hypothesis
- Come to a conclusion
- Develop a theory based on this study
