feb revolution: rural unrest

A

-mass economic discontent, spread to rural areas
-there was also a decrease in rural workforce as many of the young men in rural areas had been conscripted
-grain prices were also kept low so farmers had decreased profits
-this was made worse by inflation

-the military were aware of the social unrest
-the tsar was complacent and did not do much as he believed he would be able to recover like the 1905 revolution

the February/march revolution

A

-tthe tsar announced that bread rationing would begin on the 1st of march
-23rd of February, many women went out to celebrate international women’s day
-on the 25th of February, 200k protestors took to the streets of Petrograd
-the military opposed tsar’s orders and supported protestors by giving them weapons
-the tsar’s power had crumbled by then

abdication of the tsar

A

-duma representatives had met the tsar on his train when leaving to request his abdication
-tsar had agreed to abdicate himself and his son on the 2nd of march, leading to the end of the Romanov dynasty
