Q

Is mitochondrial DNA increased or decreased in women with high ACEs?

A

Mitochondria generate the energy that is required for cells to fulfill their roles. An increase in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), may indicate a change in mitochondria and cellular energetics.

In the DNA samples taken from women with histories of stress-related depression - often related to forms of childhood adversity such sexual abuse - the researchers found that there were more mitochondrial DNA present compared with samples from other study participants.

Q

What are common aspects of irritability?

A

Irritability, defined as an increased propensity to exhibit increased anger relative to one’s peers, is a common clinical problem in youth. Irritability can be conceptualized as aberrant responses to frustration (where frustration is the emotional response to blocked goal attainment) and/or aberrant ‘approach’ responses to threat. Irritable youth show hyper-reactivity to threat mediated by dysfunction in amygdala, medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), insula, striatum, and association cortex. Irritable youth also show abnormalities in reward learning, cognitive control, and responses to frustration.

Q

What percentage of adolescents experience severe peer victimization?

A

15% As many as 75% of children and adolescents report experiencing some sort of peer victimization, with 10 to 15% experiencing more severe and prolonged victimization.

17
Q

Are high risk classification useful in suicidal assessment

A

No. Predicting suicidal behaviours using clinical instruments: systematic review and meta-analysis of positive predictive values for risk scales.
Br J Psychiatry. 2017 Mar 16;:

18
Q

What percentage of people deny suicide ideation at last contact before dying by suicide?

A

2/3 and 1/2 of these die within two days. Common precursors were same for both those that reported SI and those that did not: Risk factors charted for the majority of all decedents were a history of prior suicide ideation and/or suicide attempt, current anxiety/agitation and sleep problems, current interpersonal problems or job/financial strain, current comorbid diagnoses, current social isolation/withdrawal, and a family history of mental disorder.

19
Q

Who wrote about rumination?

A

Susan Nolen-Hoeksema

20
Q

Are genes or environmental more important in the emergence of social anxiety?

A

Genes play a crucial role over time although environmental factors matter most in the short term, according to a major study into social anxiety and avoidant personality disorders.

21
Q

What are the developmental trajectories of dysregulation profiles? .

A

There were three developmental trajectories representing high, moderate, and low DP subgroups with 9.2% of participants represented by the high DP subgroup. Among predictors, self-esteem (negative), self-awareness (positive), and high numbers of life events had the most consistent effect on high DP.

22
Q

What atypical antipsychotic was as efficacious as others but caused less weight gain and was stopped less than other agents, for youth with SCZ?

23
Q

What do bedtime procrastinators do?

A

Tend to have more depression, anxiety, insomnia. Spend more leisure time, more time on phone before bed.

24
Q

A

Immunomodulators and surgery. APs are useful for agitation and aggression but not particularly for psychosis.
