Fields and Forces Flashcards
(6 cards)
what is gravitaional attraction dependent on
the two objects masses and the distance between them
what is a field
an area of influence, hwo two objects not in contact can exert a force on to eachother
why does it seem like astronauts are floating space
they are not actually floating
they are in freefall
gravity is causing all objects to fall at the same rate, resulting in appearance of weightlessness, or microgravitys
important aspects of satellite motion
they are projectiles, only force acting upon them is gravity
constantly falling, not towards earth but around it
same characteristics as circular motion
orbital speed will depend on the strength of the gravitational field at the orbital radius
what is electric force
the attractive or repulsive interaction between any two objects with a charge
theb force between two charged objects is directly proportional to their charge and inversely proportional to their distance
what are vectors or scalar quantities for forces and fields
fields are vectors and forces are scalar
