What is a Simile?
The comparison of one thing with another, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g. as brave as a lion)
What is a Metaphor?
Describing Something by stating it is something else. (e.g. he was a lion)
What is an Extended Metaphor?
Continuing to use the same metaphor in different ways throughout a piece of writing. (e.g. she was a mouse, she crept out her hole peering shyly at those around her. Scampering across the floor she left …)
What is Personification?
Giving a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human, such as an object. (e.g the computer hates me)
What is Pathetic Fallacy?
Using the weather or the setting to describe or mirror the mood of a character or place.
