What are the three types of file types ?
Regular files,
Directories,
Special Types.
What is a directory ?
Tree-Like structure, with a root directory,
Enable reuse of file names in different directories.
What is a volume ?
Partition on physical disks.
What are files split into ?
Allocation units (clusters)
What are the space allocation methods ?
Chained clusters: Each unit points to the next (slow),
Cluster lists: List of all units in the file (direct access).
What is FAT ?
File allocation Table,
Used in DOS / early windows,
Uses chained clusters,
Size limit due to fixed size table.
What is NTFS ?
New Technology File System,
Used in modern windows,
Uses Master file table,
Stores metadata and pointers.
