Q
Name the phases of the cell cycle, which is the longest, and the processes in each one.
A
G1 (Interphase): Growth (making proteins and organelles). About 46%.
S (Interphase): DNA replication and more growth. Second longest. About 33%.
G2 (Interphase): Growth and checks the DNA for errors. Third longest. About 17%.
Mitosis and Cytokinesis: The nucleus divides into 2, then the cytoplasm divides. About 4%.
2
Q
What controls how the cell moves through the cell cycle & how does it control that movement?
A
Checkpoint proteins, such as cyclin check the cell for errors between stages of the cell cycle; essentially regulating the cell.
