Lublin Reservation
Region in Poland used for agricultural production.
Nazi regime run by Hanz Frank.
All Jews will be placed here until Nazi know what to do with them (eventually becomes the Jew ghetto).
Madagascar Plan
1940: German Early plan to get rid of Jews by shipping them to Madagascar but they were unsuccessful because Great Britain was the greatest hindrance they had due to their ships being in the way.
Ghettoization/ Ghettos (in Poland; Lodz, Warsaw)
1940 - 41: forming walled up ghettos all over Poland for Jews to stay in.
Hanz mad because too many Jews being sent there so he creates the walled up ghetto.
Euthanasia/ T4 Program
1938 - 39: Idea was to prevent hereditarily diseased offsprings from being a part of the aryan society.
Applied to children under 3 years of age and later on it was also applied to adults because of Reich Leader Bouhler and Dr. med Brandt.
Disabled adults were sent to killing centers were they were killed in gas chambers until church leaders began to protest on 1941.
German Attack on Soviet Union (Operation Barbarossa)
June 1941. The Nazi desire to conquer western Soviet Union so that they could repopulate it with Germans, to seize the oil resources and to use the slavs as a labour force. The purpose of this was to force Britain to seek terms with Germany
War of Extermination
July 1941. Hitler said that this was to be a war of extermination. That is to say, a war focused on the mass execution of Jewish men, women and children as well as communists.
Einsatzgruppen
Late 1941. A special task force/death squad under Himmler and Heydeich’s command. Purpose of this task force was to follow Hitler’s specific orders because Hitler felt that the Wehrmacht would not execute his orders with the severity he wanted them executed.
Soviet Prisoners of War
1941 Polish and soviet prisoners that were captured during Barbarossa. Many of these prisoners were mistreated, exposed, and starved until they died. The purpose of this treatment was due to the Germans plan to eliminate them and also because there were so many POWs in numbers.
Hunger Plan
A plan developed as part of the German invasion of Eastern Europe known as Operation Barbarossa beginning in 1941. The Third Reich suffered from chronic shortages of all essentials requisite for carrying out their war of conquest and therefore had to arrange means of taking resources from conquered territory and distributing these resources throughout the German military and to the German populace within the territory of the Third Reich. The Hunger Plan was a specific policy of diverting foodstuffs from Eastern Europe, particularly from Ukraine, and thus achieving the simultaneous purposes of feeding the German people and starving to death millions of Slavs in order to depopulate Eastern Europe prior to planned German colonization.
General Plan East
October 1942. Heinrich Himmler’s RSHA of the SS was in charge of carrying out this operation. The purpose of the plan was to have an ethnic cleansing and colonization of Central and Eastern Europe by Germans.
Jewish Council (“Judennat”)
First established on September 1939 in Poland, it was made to keep order in the Jewish ghettos in Germany-occupied Europe and Poland. The council was made of Jews because Germany wanted to be able to enforce laws on Jews with more ease.
Emmanuel Ringelblum
Nov. 1900 to March 1944. Polish-Jewish historian known for his Warsaw Ghetto notes. Wrote about how Jewish people survived and what they would go through. He was also devoted to helping Jews during WWII.
Wannsee Conference
Jan. 1942. Nazi party and German government officials at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to discuss the Final Solution of the Jewish Question. Part of the discussion was about moving the Jews to the East and putting them to work until most of them died and dealing with the rest of the Jews.
Heinrich Himmler
1900-1945. Antisemite SS, police and concentration camps under Himmler’s direction.
Reinhard Heydrich
1904 - 1942. Antisemite. Second in command after Himmler; chief of the security police; in charge of Jewish emigration and eventually with the “Final Solution” ; Since 1939, head of the Reich Security Main Office and the Einsatzgruppen.
Joseph Goebbles
1897 - 1945. Antisemite German politician and Reich Minister of Propaganda of Nazi Germany. Was a close and devoted associate of Adolf Hitler.
Globocnik Camps
Named for SS Gruppenführer Odilo Globocnik, head of the SS in the Lublin District. These were death camps established within the territory of the General Government wherein mostly Polish Jews were killed, such as Belzec, Sobibor, Majdanek, and Treblinka, as part of Operation Reinhard. The operation began after Globocnik was tasked by Himmler with eliminating the Jews in Poland in 1941.

Established 1940 near Southern Poland. Operated longer than other killing sites

Decorations to Auschwitz begin with Jews from Slovakia and France in late March 1942.
Majdanek
Located on the outskirts of the city of Lublin. Built and operated by the SS. Deportation began in spring 1942. Over 110,000 killed at the camp. Its main purpose was for forced labor but was also used for killings, especially during operation Reinhard.
