People lived in tenemant apartments, no running water, no sewage or sanitation, garbage and sewage filled streets.
What was life like working in factories and mines?
Working shift hours were 12-16 for 6-7 days. Kids were forced to work. Women too.
What were the affects from the industrial revolution?
It started capatalism in America and Europe. It also started socialism. New buisnesses started to take off, and factories increase production
What happened to workers pay after a long period of time?
Their pay and benefits started to increase.
How did Japan become a major industrial power?
They isolated from the industrial revolution and were way behind industrially. But they quick opened up and became an industrial power.
How did Imperialist European powers claim control over most of Africa?
Europeans took advantage of non-united Africa and Europe had superior better weaponds than Africa.

How did China cope with internal division and foreign invasion prior to WWI?
A civil war broke out called the taiping rebellion. Then chinese try to kick out the foreigners but were defeated by them because everywhere else was higly industrialized. (boxer rebellion)
How did British gradually extend its control over India, despite opposition?
The British East India Company exploited India and extended its control over most of India then the British government took over.
How and Why did World War 1 start?
- The black hand group killed Franz Ferdinand.
How and where was World War I fought?
They often dug trenches on the western side of europe and used machine guns, bombs and artillery

Communism - A classless society where everyone is equal.
Fascism- A government system led by a dictator having complete power suppressing criticism.
What were the causes and effects of the Russian Revolution?
The causes were, absolute rule of the tsars, economic backwardness, and social injustice.
The effects were - The russians killed the tsar and the bolsheviks took over.
What were the provisions and impacts of the Treaty of Versailles?
The treaty of versailles was to punish germany by: disarming military forces, pay 33 billion dollars, take responsibility, etc.

The backwards, corrupt qing dynasty led their people to famines, heavy taxes and unfairness. Which led to the rebellion/civilwar

Ending its imperial system

The great depression, Rabid nationalism, and the treaty of versailles caused fascim in Europe.
What were the failures of appeasement and the League of Nations?
Appeasements are supposed to be an act of avoiding war, however they didn’t work at all. And The league of nations never did anything either, they just simply watched everything happen.
How did Stalin transform the Soviet Union into a totalitarian communist state?
Stalin used the 5 year plan to modernize the soviet union, a famine hit which led to industrialization, then put people in Gulags and held show trials, and eventually started his purges because of his cult of personlaity.

Millions of millions of people were killed, afraid of nuclear warfare because of tensions between countries.

The world lived in constant fear of nuclear attack for 50 years, countries had to decide which side to join (communist or not) and the U.S. and communist countries fight in proxy wars
