What is a mutation?
A change in a cell’s genetic information.
What is a locus?
The location of a gene.
What is a chromosome?
DNA + Proteins.
What is a gene?
A precursor section of DNA that directs a cell to make a certain protein that expresses a certain character or version of a given trait.
What is a trait?
A gene, such as eye color, height, hair color, freckles, etc.
What is an allele?
A genetically inherited version of a trait passed down from generation to generation.
Examples include blue, brown, tall, short, blonde, bald, red, wrinkled, etc.
What does homozygous mean?
Matching alleles, such as AA or aa.
What does heterozygous mean?
Different alleles, such as Aa or aA.
What is a genotype?
What is coded, such as AA, Aa, or aa.
What is a phenotype?
What is physically expressed based on the genotype.
What is a pedigree?
A family trait chart.
