Jim Crow Era
A time from the 1870’s to the 1960’s when laws in the South enforced racial segregation and discrimination against black Americans
Jim Crow Laws
State and local laws in the south that enforced racial segregation
Ex.
1. Separate schools
2. Separate public facilities
3. Banning of interracial marriage
4. Public transportation segregation
5. Voting restrictions
Plessy v. Ferguson
A Supreme Court case in 1896 that established the legal basis for racial segregation introducing the “seperte but equal doctrine”.
Separate but equal
The idea that black and white people could be legally separated in public spaces as longa style facilities were equal. In reality, black Americans were given worse schools, resources, and services.
Constitutional / Unconstitutional

Constitutional: a law or action that follows U.S constitution & is legally allowed.
Unconstitutional: a law or action that violates the U.S constitution & is legally not allowed.
Segregate / Segregation
(Define as both verb and noun in context of Civil Rights)
Segregate(verb):To separate people based on race
Segregation(noun): Tye system of practice of keeping racial groups apart
Integrate / Integration
Integrate(verb): To bring people of different races together.
Integration(noun): The process of ending racial segregation and bringing people together.
