FINALS CHAPTER 9: PHOTOSYNTHESIS Flashcards
(11 cards)
What organelle is involved in the process of photosynthesis?
Chloroplasts
What are the two parts of the chloroplast?
Thylakoid
Stroma
What are the thylakoids? What structures do they form?
Sacklike membranes containing chlorophyll and other pigments
Stacks called grana
What is the stroma?
The jelly-like substance that fills the spaces between grana within the chloroplast
What stage of photosynthesis occurs in the thylakoid?
Light-dependent
What stage of photosynthesis occurs in the stroma?
Light-independent
What pigment is involved in photosynthesis?
Chlorophyll
What products connect the light-dependent and light-independent reactions?
ATP and NADPH
How to ATP and NADPH travel through the light-dependent and light-independent reactions?
ATP and NADPH are created during the light-dependent reactions, then are used in the light-independent reactions to produce sugars before being returned to the light-dependent reactions as ADP and NADP+ to be recharged and used again
What are the reactants and products of photosynthesis?
Reactants - Carbon dioxide + Water
Products - Sugars + Oxygen
What is the balanced equation of photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O —light–> C6H12O6 + 6O2
