How do you reduce disease transmission in first aid?
DOn’t eat, cover your own wounds, use protective barriers, and don’t eat/drink around the patient. Also wash your hands
How do you care for a burn?
Remove hot or burned clothing; cur around it if it is stuck on. COol it with water, cover it with a sterile bandage,
How do you care for an impaled object?
Treat it like a wound around the object, and DO NOT REMOVE IT
What is a soft splint?
Taping something to a pillow or blanket to prevent it from moving
What is a hard splint?
Using a more solid object to hold body parts in place, ie a cardboard box or fiberglass
What is an air/vacuum splint?
One that conforms to the damaged area

One that supports a broken bone

Caring for bites and stings
Try to get the stinger/venom out, then apply a cool compress, then ointment/a bandage
Caring for a chemical burn
Wash the area for 20 minutes then put sterile gauze/bandage on it
What if the first rescue breath given during CPR does not make the chest rise?
Try again, but only once

How do you determine responsiveness?
Tap or gently shake victim. Shout — “Are you OK?”
If a head or neck injury is suspected, only move the victim if absolutely necessary.
