What was the German plan of attack called?
The Schlieffen Plan
What did the Schlieffen Plan entail?
It was based off of the idea that the Russians, who had a relatively lacking railway infrastructure, would take at least a month to mobilise their force of 6 million men. They would mobilise part of their force against the French in Alsace-Lorraine, but most of their forces aimed to outflank the French force through Belgium. The German 1st Army would aim to encircle Paris. They wanted to avoid the tougher French fortresses in Verdun to Belfort in Eastern France
