Fish heart circulation & how it can beat outside
Single circulation
- Relies on diffusion of nutrients, so doesnt need coronary vessels like humans
What solution do we immerse heart in
Ringer’s Solution
Physiological saline (glucose, O2, and ATP supply)
Does CNS effect fish heart in experiment?
No
Fish is decapitated so no PARA or SYMP effects on Heart
How are heart beats measured

Effect of Temp on heart
- Cold: Slower HR
- Warm: Faster HR
Extrasystole
Extra heartbeat occurring outside the physiological heart rhythm (skipped heart beat)

Where are 2 ligatures placed
1) Bw Sinus Venosus & Atrium
2) Atrium & Ventricles
Ligature 1
Between Sinus venosus & Atrium slows down HR, but still remains since AV node takes over
Ligature 2
Between Atrium & ventricle it slows down or stops completely
Why is AV node slower than SA as a pacemaker
It has less HCN channels
Can the heart be tetanized
No the heart muscle can not be tetanzied due to inactivation of channels in Refractory periods
