Flame emission spectroscopy Flashcards
How does flame emission spectroscopy work?
It works by heating a sample in a flame and as the sample is heated, the electrons will become excited and emit light.
What is the device used in flame emission spectroscopy?
A spectroscope which can detect the individual wavelengths of light that are emitted to produce a line spectrum.
What does the intensity of a line spectrum indicate?
The concentration of the ion in solution.
What is the main advantage of flame emission spectroscopy?
It can be used to identify different ions in mixtures as the spectrum will show the lines for all the ions.
What are the 3 main benefits of instrumental methods?
Very sensitive.
Very fast.
Very accurate.
