Congress
the national legislative body of a country.
Executive branch
The branch of federal and state government that is broadly responsible for implementing, supporting, and enforcing the laws made by the legislative branch and interpreted by the judicial branch.
Legislative branch
The legislative branch is the part of the United States government that creates laws. Whenever you read about congresspeople in the Senate or House debating a law, you’re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating.
judicial branch
The judicial branch is one of three branches of the federal government. The judicial branch includes criminal and civil courts and helps interpret the United States Constitution.
President
the elected head of a republican state.
Vice-president
an official or executive ranking below and deputizing for a president.
Census
an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details of individuals.
Supreme court
the highest judicial court in a country or state
House of representatives
The House of Representatives is the lower house of the United States Congress. The House and the Senate work together on bills to give to the President to put into law.
Senate
any of various legislative or governing bodies, in particular.
Liberalism
Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.
Conversavtism
A general preference for the existing order of society, and an opposition to efforts to bring about sharp change.
Checks & Balances
A fundamental principle of American government, guaranteed by the Constitution, whereby each branch of the government (executive, judicial, and legislative) has some measure of influence over the other branches and may choose to block procedures of the other branches.
Democracy
a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.
Politics
the activities of governments concerning the political relations between countries.
Republican
a member or supporter of the Republican Party.
Democrat
a member of the Democratic Party.
Election
a formal and organized process of electing or being elected, especially of members of a political body.
Voting rights
the right to vote,especially the right of a common shareholder to vote in person or by proxy on the affairs of a company
Electoral college
a body of people representing the states of the US, who formally cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.
Constitution
a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.
Constitutional
relating to the system of beliefs and laws that govern a country or relating to a constitution
Veto
a constitutional right to reject a decision or proposal made by a law-making body.
