Flight Controls, Engines Flashcards
To which yoke are the spoilers connected?
Captain’s.
SDM 9-24
To which yoke are the ailerons connected?
First Officer’s.
SDM 9-20
What do the ground spoiler advisory lights, ROLL OUTBD & ROLL INBD, indicate?
Spoilers are extended in ground mode.
SDM 9-27
What 3 conditions must be met on touch down for the spoilers to extend?
Flight/Taxi switch in Flight position
Weight on Wheels
Both power levers at or aft of FLIGHT IDLE gate
SDM 9-26
What is the degree of full rudder travel?
Limited to approx. 12* left or right of center when flaps are in the zero detent;
Full rudder travel of 18* left or right of center is available when Flap Selector Lever is moved out of the zero degree flap detent position.
SDM 9-13
What is the function of the powered flight control shutoff switchlights?
To depressurize a jammed PCU (Power Control Unit).
(Rudder 1 & 2, and Spoiler 1 & 2 switchlights are located in the center glareshield panel).
SDM 9-17 and 9-28
@Is it okay to complete a rudder check with nose wheel steering off, but with the tug still attached to the aircraft?
No.
Tug must be disconnected and D-ring observed.
FSM 3.22.4
If the roll spoilers do not deploy or props do not move into discing upon landing should you increase or relax forward pressure on the control column?
Relax.
Do NOT apply forward pressure on the control column once the nosewheel is on the runway.
FSM 3.17.4
When does the Flap Auto Pitch Trim operate?
When all of the following conditions exist:
- Flaps are selected from 15* to 35, or from 35 to 15*, and
- The autopilot is not engaged, and
- The airspeed is < 200 KIAS, and
- A manual pitch trim is not commanded by either the CA or FO.
SDM 9-10
If the electric trim is in motion for more than 3 seconds, what happens?
An aural clicking sound, and the ELEVATOR TRIM SHUTOFF Switchlights (left and right side of glareshield) illuminate.
SDM 9-8
When operating flaps, will the Flap Auto Pitch Trim operate if the pilot operates the electric trim?
No.
SDM 9-10
How is the angle of attack (AOA) transducer’s heat turned on and off?
Automatically.
The heating elements are powered by 115v variable AC, and are automatically activated whenever AC power is available.
SDM 9-36
What control or controls are locked when the control lock is engaged?
The ailerons.
SDM 9-22
Are the ailerons mechanically operated or hydraulically powered?
Mechanically.
SDM 9-20
Are the spoilers mechanically operated or hydraulically powered?
Hydraulic.
SDM 9-23
Is the rudder mechanically operated or hydraulically powered?
Mechanically controlled and hydraulically powered.
SDM 9-13
Is the elevator mechanically operated or hydraulically powered?
Mechanically controlled and hydraulically powered.
(Input commands from the control columns are mechanically transferred to the hydraulic PCUs, which in turn, move the elevator surfaces).
SDM 9-2 & 9-5.
Above what speed are the outboard spoilers deactivated?
> 170 KIAS.
To reduce roll sensitivity, outboard spoiler operation is deactivated at airspeeds >170 KIAS.
SDM 9-26
Which spoilers deploy on the ground?
Inboard and outboard.
SDM 9-26
How could you disable a runaway PITCH TRIM?
Push the Elevator Trim Shutoff Switchlight.
SDM 9-9
A takeoff warning will sound with the Flaps greater than?
Greater than 20* and less than 3.5.
The takeoff warning horn will sound when both power levers are advanced for takeoff (engine torque exceeds 50%), if flaps are set greater than 20 or less than 3.5*.
SDM 9-32
What are indications of an elevator trim runaway?
The Elevator Trim Shutoff switchlights illuminate, and an aural clicking sound is heard.
SDM 9-8
What components operate off the engine accessory gear box?
F - FMU (Fuel Metering Unit) O - Oil pump D - DC Starter-Generator P - PMA (Permanent Magnet Alternator) SDM 17-3
What components operate off of the propeller reduction gear box?
H - Hydraulic pump A - AC Generator P - Propeller Control Unit (PCU) P - Propeller Overspeed Governor (POG) SDM 17-3
