Flight Instruments, Displays Flashcards
What do the large red arrowheads on the PFD indicate?
That the
attitude has become excessive and show the direction to move the nose in order to reduce
it. (Beyond 30°)
What are the pitch and roll protection limits indicated by the green = signs?
- On the roll scale to mark the bank angle protection availability of up to 67° bank
- On the pitch scale at 15° nose down or 30° nose up to mark the pitch limits
When would the sideslip index change from yellow to blue?
In case of engine failure at takeoff or go around, the sideslip index changes from yellow to blue. In this case, the sideslip index is called the β (beta) target.
What does the yellow speed trend pointer on the airspeed display indicate?
The tip indicates the
speed the aircraft will reach in 10 seconds if its acceleration remains constant.
What is the difference between the magenta and blue target airspeeds?
(magenta) computed by FMGC in managed speed mode
(blue) manually entered on the FCU in selected speed mode
What is VLS and how is it displayed?
Minimum Selectable Speed (VLS) lowest selectable speed providing an appropriate
margin to the stall speed.
What speed does VMAX represent and how is it displayed?
It is the lowest of the following:
• VMO or the speed corresponding to MMO
• VLE
• VFE
What is Green Dot speed?
(engine-out operating speed in clean configuration)
appears when the aircraft is flying in the clean configuration. It represents the speed
corresponding to the best lift-to-drag ratio.
What would be indicated if the altitude window changed from yellow to amber?
If the aircraft deviates from the FCU-selected altitude or flight level by 250 ft.
When is altitude alerting and the C chord automatically inhibited in flight?
The altitude alert is inhibited:
• when the slats are out with the landing gear selected down,
• in approach after the aircraft captures the glideslope, or
• when the landing gear is locked down
NOTE: The C chord is inhibited when approaching a preselected altitude or flight level when the AP is ON.
What does it mean when the altitude digits change from green to amber on the PFD?
Approaching minimums is displayed on the altitude scale by the green altitude indication changing to amber.
When is Radio Height displayed on the PFD?
value appears when the aircraft is lower than 2500 ft
What would a flashing amber ILS indicate on the bottom of the PFD?
flashes amber when the APPR mode is armed but the LS pb has not been selected
Top of Descent and Continue Descent arrows are displayed in blue or white on the ND. What is the difference?
white if DES is not armed, and blue if DES is armed.
What color does each altitude constraint circle on the ND represent?
is a circle set around the
constrained waypoint. It is displayed in:
• Magenta when the ALT CSTR is predicted to be met
• Amber when the ALT CSTR is predicted to be missed
• White when the ALT CSTR is not taken into account by the FMGS and NAV mode is engaged
If mode range data fails, what should you expect to see on the ND?
If the mode or the range data fails, the default selection is the ROSE NAV mode and 80 nm range.
What are the 3 levels of ECAM Failure Mode Notifications?
Level 3 Red Warning (Continuous Repetitive Chime)
Level 2 Amber Caution (Single Chime)
Level 1 Amber Caution (No Chime)
If simultaneous failures occur, how will they be presented to the crew on the ECAM?
A level 3 warning has priority over a level 2 caution, which has priority over a level 1 caution.
What categories of failures are presented to the crew on the EWD?
Independent
Primary
Secondary
What indication does the EWD provide for secondary failures?
putting a star in front of the title of the affected system.
What does the appearance of a green arrow at the bottom of the EWD screen indicate?
If there are too many ECAM messages for the amount of space available in the lower part of the EWD, a green arrow appears at the bottom of the display, pointing down to show that the information has overflowed off the screen.
What does the display of T.O INHIBIT or LDG INHIBIT indicate?
To improve its operational effectiveness, the computer inhibits some warnings and cautions for certain flight phases. It does so to avoid alerting the pilots unnecessarily at times when they have high workloads, such as during takeoff or landing.
When does the Takeoff Memo appear on the EWD?
The Takeoff Memo appears either 2 minutes after the second engine is started or when the T.O CONFIG test button is pressed with one engine running.
When does the Landing Memo appear EWD?
The Landing Memo appears below 2000 ft RA. The memo disappears after touchdown below 80 kts. “CONF 3” is displayed if in Alternate or Direct Law, or if the GPWS LDG FLAP 3 pushbutton is ON.
NOTE: After a go-around, if the aircraft does not climb above 2200 ft RA, the Landing Memo appears only below 800 ft RA during the subsequent approach.
