Flight or fight response Flashcards
(10 cards)
AO1 : SNS
SNS –> signals to medulla–> medulla releases adrenaline–>blood
AO1: Adrenaline
adrenaline–>BR and HR–> increase–>releases glucose –> energy–>flight or fight response.
AO1: PNS
PNS–>slow HR and BR down–>reduces stress response.
what is HPA
Hypothalamus; pituitary gland; Adrenal gland
AO1:Role of HPA
Secondary stress system–>triggered–>brain continues to see something as stressing
AO1:Role of Hypothalamus
Hypothalamus–>chemical messenger–>bloodstream
AO1: Role of pituitary gland
pituitary gland–>ACTH–> bloodstream
AO1: Role of Adrenal glands
Adrenal glands–>stress hormones–>stimulated–>ACTH
EVAL: Limitation is that it may not be the same for women
E: Protect themselves by nurturing behaviours and forming alliances with others
E: May have different stress system–>primary chid caregiver–>fleeing–>child at risk
L: Stress responses are more characterised by tending and befriending than FF
EVAL: Limitation is when you look at animals, they tend to show the freeze response not FF.
E: Most animals display freeze response instead of attacking or running away
E: This response is mainly so the animal is hyper responsive to its environment so it can react fast
L:This focuses on their attention to help them decide what the right choice to make is.
