What were guilds
Guilds were organized groups of people involved in the same craft or trade
What was something important in florence
The banking centre. Rich bankers lent money to powerful people like popes and kings
Who were the Medici
They were a family that became so rich and powerful through banking that it took over some of the government of the city
Who were patrons?
Many rich people became patrons, this meant they gave commissions (or orders) for paintings and other works of art.
What buildings dominated the town
Mainly the medici palace , the dome and many cathedrals
How did trade help art and florence
Trade helped because it meant new ideas and inspiration, the industry because it meant buying and investing in art, banking helped because if you made money you could invest in art, and patronage because it helped to get artists to make more art so there was more to invest in
