(14 cards)
4 separate lines of evidence
- If God exists and the Bible teaches that Jesus is the divinely begotten Son of God, then it follows that Jesus is the divinely begotten Son of God.
- Character and teachings of Jesus are so great, they couldn’t have been contrived by mere man;
- Predictive prophecy

- Was buried in Jerusalem
- Disciples become discouraged, having lost hope because of his death

Four false arguments that suggest that one cannot make knowledge claims in matters of history.
- The historian never directly knows his subject
- The historian’s knowledge is necessarily incomplete.
- A historian’s research is goal-directed and, therefore, prejudiced.
- Historical research is value laden and is therefore constructed rather than discovered.
What contributes to finding solid conclusions in one’s historical research?
- The closer the witnesses are to the events in question the better is the testimony.
- Evidence from those who have no interest in, or are opposed to, supporting particular events being studied, actually supports those conclusions.
- Eyewitness testimony supports the conclusions one draws about matters of history.
- Embarrassing admissions tend to support historical claims.
- Multiple, independent witnesses support historical claims.
The he Apostle Paul stresses the importance of the resurrection The argument he makes is stated is as follows:
- If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised
- But Christ has been raised
- therefore, there is a resurrection from the dead.
Additional arguments by Sztanyo
- The physical death by crucifixion and subsequent burial of Jesus are virtually beyond historical dispute.
- The empty tomb just 3 days after his death.
- The amazing conversions of Saul and James, the Lord’s half brother
