Describe the test for starch
A
- Using a measuring cylinder, measure 2 mL of water into a test tube
- Add a small spatula of starch and shake
- Add four drops of iodine
- Look at the colour change of the iodine

A
- Measure 2 mL of water into a test tube
- Add a small spatula of protein powder and shake
- Add 2ml of Biuret solution

A
- Place 3 drops of oil into a tube
- Add 5ml of ethanol and shake the test tube to dissolve the oil
- Leave the tube to settle for two minutes
- Paul the top 2/3 of liquid into a clean test tube
- Add a small amount of water and record the colour change

Describe the food test for sugar
A
- Measure 3 mL of water into a boiling tube
- Add a spatula of glucose and shake
- Add 3 mL of Benedict’s solution
- Half fill a beaker with water and heat it on the tripod and gauze until the water is boiling
- Turn off the Bunsen
- Stand the boiling tube containing glucose and Benedict’s solution in the water and record what happens

Describe the vitamin c food test
A
- Collect a test tube and carefully measure 5 mL of DCPIP into it with a measuring cylinder
- Measures 25 mL of vitamin c solution into a small beaker
- Using a teat the pet add ascorbic acid to the DCP I P drop by drop. Shake the test tube between each drop and count the number of drops added
- Keep adding ascorbic acid until there is a colour change
