Forces Flashcards
(11 cards)
How is speed different to velocity?
Speed:
- Is a scalar quantity
- Scalar quantities only have a magnitude (size)
- No direction
Velocity:
- Describes an object’s speed and direction
- Is a vector quantity because of its magnitude and direction
Equation for average speed
Average speed = distance / time
S = d / t
What is the typical walking speed?
1.4 m/s
What is the typical running speed?
3.3m/s
What is the typical speed of a bus?
10m/s
What is the typical speed of a car on the motorway?
31m/s
What is the typical speed of wind?
6m/s
What is the typical speed of sound?
330m/s
Equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = change in velocity / time taken
What is the difference between distance and displacement?
Distance:
- How far an object moves
- Is a scalar quantity
Displacement:
- Is the distance an object moves in a straight line from the starting point to a finishing point.
- Is a vector quantity.
What is a force?
A force is a push or pull any that acts on an object when it interacts with another object.
