Forces Flashcards
(9 cards)
what is a force
a force is a “compelling mechanism” by which, can affect (or change) an object(s) motion or geometry
What is newtons first law
an object exhibiting uniform motion will continue to do so, unless acted on by an external, unbalanced force.
LAW OF INERTIA
What is newtons second law
The acceleration created is directly proportional to the amount of force applied (& mass)
F=ma
What is newtons third law
All action forced have an assosiated “reaction” force. Same magnitude opposite direction.
What are the 4 fundamental forces
Gravity, Electromagnitism, Strong nuclear force, and Weak nuclear force
What is the range and relative strength of gravity
Attraction between masses
Infinite distances, dominates on the planetary scale. 1 (4th most)
What is the range and relative strength of Electromagnitism
Attraction and repulsion of charged particles
infinite distances, dominates at the human scale, 10^20 (3rd most)
What is the range and relative strength of Strong nuclear force
Binds together the nucleus
within the nucleus only, 10^38 (most)
What is the range and relative strength of Weak nuclear force
Within nutrons and protons
subatomic, 10^25 (2nd most)
