Forces Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is Force
when we push or pull, force is an interaction that takes place between objects
What is speed
measure of how fast an object moves and is defined as the distance travelled per unit time.
Gravitational Force
a force that exists between objects that have mass.
weight
the amount of gravitational force acting on an object
Friction
a force which opposes the movement of an object
Acts whenever one surface rubs against another surface
Pressure
the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area.
P = F/A
A is..?
A is the contact area
Fluid Pressure
Pressure in a liquid increases with the depth and density of the liquid and with the gravitational field strength
Atmospheric pressure
due to the weight of air acting on you
how does suction cup work?
when it is pressed onto the wall, most of the air is squeezed out from under the suction cup, decreasing the air pressure between the suction cup and the wall.
As atmospheric pressure is now greater than the pressure of the trapped air under the suction cup, the atmospheric pressure holds the suction cup firmly against the wall.
How does a straw work
You suck some air from the straw, you suck some air in the straw, it makes the pressure inside the straw lower. Atmospheric pressure then pushes the liquid up the straw into your mouth
The pivot
the turning point
how to make turning effect the largest?
perpendicular distance furthest away from the pivot.
