Forces 2 Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Stretching Force
A
A stretching force puts an object - a rope or a spring - under tension so if it’s able to stretch lightly it is a tension force.
2
Q
Squashing force
A
A squashing force puts an object under compression.
3
Q
Brittle
A
Some objects are not able to change shape easily so when a force is applied on such object they can break easily. They’re known as brittle. Glass is brittle.
4
Q
Elastic
A
When an object is able to return to its original shape when the force is removed.
5
Q
Hooke’s Law
A
Hooke’s Law states that the extension of a spring is directionally proportional to the force used to stretch the spring but this is only true until the elastic limit has been reached.
