Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, Phosphorus
What are cells?
The body’s basic living units
What are the 5 parts of the cell (animal)?
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes
What is a nucleus?
The control centre/”brain” of the cell
What is cytoplasm?
Jelly - like fluid that contains organelles
What does the cell membrane do?
Controls the movement of substances in + out of the cell
What is mitochondria?
Organelles that contain enzymes for respiration
What are ribosomes?
Tiny structures where protein synthesis occurs
What is a tissue?
A group of similar cells that work together
What is an organ?
A group of tissues that work together
What tissue forms the skin?
Epithelial tissue
What tissue forms muscles?
Muscle tissue
What tissue forms the brain, spinal cord and nerve?
Nervous tissue
What does connective tissue do?
Provides packing and support for other tissues
