A

-He travelled to Bosnia in hopes of bringing more peace between Serbians living in Bosnia, and the Austro Hungary Empire
-On June 28th, 1914 while on a parade in Sarajevo he was assassinated by Gravrilo Pricip, who was a member of the black hand, and wanted the freedom of Bosnia from the Austro-Hungary Empire

-It creates competitions between the countries to expand their empire through colonization
-It was bad for WW1 because it brought in many countries without any ties to the war simply because they were a colony of a country. i.e Canada being part of WWI because it is a colony of England

Nationalism

A

-it is the deep feeling of loyalty to one’s people and homeland
-Extreme Nationalism was becoming a problem in Europe
-Austria-Hungary had annexed Bosnia in 1908. Many people living in Bosnia were of Serbian descent. They resented that they were ruled over by the Austrians.
-This extreme nationalism led to some Bosnians assassinating Franz Ferdinand in the name of freedom.

What Happened after Franz Ferdinand’s Assassination?

A

Austro-Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatum: End all nationalist hatred against Austro-Hungary, Punish all those involved in the assassination plot, and allow Austro-Hungary officials into Serbia to destroy the black hand.
-Serbia did not agree to the last condition hence, starting WWI on July 26th, 1914
