FRC Flashcards

1
Q

FADEC-F

A

F – Fly the aircraft. Gain or maintain a safe rotor speed, attitude, altitude, speed and heading.

A – Alert the crew to the problem. It is important to near simultaneously alert the crew to the emergency condition.

D – Diagnose the emergency. Conduct malfunction analysis and confirm diagnosis with the crew.

E – Execute emergency procedure steps IAW the FRCs. Immediate action (underlined) steps will be performed from memory. Actions and subsequent actions (non-underlined) steps will be performed using the FRCs.

C – Communicate the plan of action to the crew and supporting agencies (ATC, wingman, etc.).

F – Fly the aircraft.

EMER ENG SHUTDOWN

Immediate Actions

CAUTION 1

CAUTION 2

CAUTION 3

Considerations

A
  • ENG COND lever - STOP
  • FIRE PULL handle - Pull (as required)
  • FIRE PULL handle - Twist (engine fire only) clockwise or counterclockwise as required

CAUTION 1: Positive identification of the malfunctioning engine must be accomplished to avoid shutting down the wrong engine.

CAUTION 2: If certain ECU faults are present, engine shutdown may only be possible by using the FIRE PULL handle or by manually closing the motorized gate valve at the ramp area.

CAUTION 3: Resetting the FIRE PULL handle may result in a residual fire.

Considerations
- Engine shutdown in flight is usually not an immediate action item unless a fire exists.

ABORT START

Indications

Immediate Actions

Note 1

A

Indications
- Rapid and abnormal rise in PTIT
- May observe flames and black smoke coming from the engine tail
cone

Immediate Actions
- ENG COND lever - STOP
- ENG START switch - Motor (if high PTIT is indicated)

Note 1

Note 2

A

Immediate Actions
- A/S - Above 60 KCAS
- Pilot’s sliding window - Open
- Helicopter attitude -
Yaw left, one half to one ball width on the inclinometer
- F Upper half of main cabin door Open

WARNING 1: If the flight engineer is unable to manually position the ramp, the pilot should attempt to check that the ramp is clear of personnel and equipment before opening or closing it.

WARNING 2: Unannounced opening and closing of the ramp may lead to injury to personnel, or damage to equipment.

Subsequent Actions
- Cabin Heater Blower C/B (No. 2 PDP C31) - Pull
- RAMP EMER switch - As required
- Cargo loading ramp - As required
- Copilot’s sliding window - Closed
- NVG curtain - Open (if applicable)

Note 1: Intensification of smoldering fire may occur if the pilot’s sliding window, upper half of the main cabin door, and the ramp are open.

Note 2: If the source of the fire cannot be determined, close the cargo loading ramp but keep the pilot’s window and the upper half of the main cabin door open.

DITCHING POWER ON

Actions

Considerations

A

Actions
- Land in the water away from personnel
- EMER ENG SHUTDOWN (CARD W -3R)

Considerations
- Plan the approach so that the final descent is 90° to the primary wave pattern and terminates in a hover 5 to 10 feet above the water.
- When stabilized in hover, discharge passengers or wait until the helicopter is in the water and the rotors have stopped turning.

Indications

Immediate Actions

Urgency to Land

Subsequent Actions

Considerations

A

Indications
- ENG1 FAIL Or ENG2 FAIL + audible “WARNING (×3)”
- Continued decrease in NG speed
- Decrease in TQ on the failed engine
- Increase in TQ on the engaged engine
- Possible droop in NR

Immediate Actions
- External cargo - Jettison (as required)
- FLT DIR CPLR - Uncoupled

Urgency to Land
- LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - Not single engine capable
- LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE - Single engine capable

Subsequent Actions
- F Affected engine - Check
- EMER ENG SHUTDOWN - Failed Engine (CARD W-3R)

Considerations
- ENGINE RESTART DURING FLIGHT (CARD W-8) may be attempted if no visible damage to the engine is present.
- When operating singe engine for extended periods, the second engine must be motored for 10 seconds every 30 minutes.
