7
Q

what happens during a cold front

A

cold dense air mass approaches a light, slow moving air mass ( cP to mP) , the heavy cold air forces the warm air to rise very quickly. the rising air gets RECCD into clouds

8
Q

what is the last thing that happens during a cold front

11
Q

what happens during a warm front

A

the warm air (mT) always rises over colder air (cP), then the less dense, warm air rises up the back of the cold air. air rises gradually then gets RECCD into clouds

16
Q

what weather does an occluded front bring

A

blizzards and torrential rains

17
Q

what causes a stationary front?

A

when the warm front and cold front are on a “head on collision” the movement stops

18
Q

what weather does a stationary front bring

A

long lasting cloudy, wet weather such as rain or snow

19
Q

what is orographic lifting

A

when mountains force air upward

20
Q

characteristics of the windward side

A

wet, west and expansional cooling

21
Q

characteristics of the leeward side

A

dry, east, and expansional heating

22
Q

what happens to the air on the windward side

23
Q

what happens to the air on the leeward side

A

gets SCWD, sinking, compressing, warming, dry

24
Q

how do clouds form

A

they get RECCD
