FUEL / FUEL POLICY Flashcards

1
Q
  • What is the max fuel imbalance for taxi, take-off and landing?
  • Why would a fuel imbalance be a potential problem?
A
  • 3000 lbs if total main tank is over 55’000 kg

4500 lbs if total main tank is less than 41’000 kg

  • Because of the required lateral trim required will cause increased drag and fuel consumption
  • The loads on the underweight wing will be more transferred through the root - in effect the airload on the light wing is having to help support the heavier wing, and that means loads transferring through the wing root which are higher than normal. Hence a possible fatigue effect.

Q

What fuel is the “fuel required” when in the air?

A
  • Trip to destination + alternate fuel + reserve fuel
    or
  • Enough to make to an ERA
    or
  • Enough to destination with in-flight fuel reduction

Q

What actions could you do if you get FUEL QTY LOW?

A
  • Crossfeed to ensure that fuel is available to both engines incase the low tank empties
  • Fuel pumps ON, to ensure all available fuel is used

16
Q

How much of the Contingency fuel would you expect to burn during a flight?

A

Contingency fuel in tons x Ramp correction

17
Q

When would you use a low or high Cost Index?

A
  • Low: Maximum range. When low on fuel

- High: To garuantee an arrival before a curfew

18
Q

What is the definition of COST INDEX?

A

Cost of TIME divided by cost if FUEL

19
Q

What part of the flight is”OVERBURN” calculated from?

A

TOC to 150 nm from touchdown

20
Q

What does “HOLDING FUEL” refer to in the fuel efficiency section in theFlight Folder?

A

Fuel from the last 150nm to touchdown

21
Q

Define MANDATORY/ADDITIONAL FUEL

A
  • At all times, when having a eng fail or depress, we must be able to divert to nearest suitable airport. If planned fuel is insufficient for that, mandatory/additional fuel is added
  • Additional fuel to ensure that at all times during the flight there is enough fuel to:
  • Fly to nearest suitable
  • Hold for 30 min at 1500ft AAL
  • Make an approach and land (500 kg)
22
Q

If you are over the North Pole and fuel looks like it’s below what you need. What can you do?

A
  • Try to get directs
  • Plan to land at ERA
  • Use In-flight fuel reduction
  • Set Cost Index to zero
23
Q

How far out from an airport would you consider using In-flght fuel reduction and why?

A

About 2h

Reason is so that you have a valid METAR

24
Q

What fuel burn would you use to do a gross error check on the CFP?

A

8 tons/h for the -300ER

25
Q

If you have to be 3,5 tons lighter for whatever reason, how do you calculate how much fuel and cargo to be taken off?

A

3,5 x RAMP CORR gives the reduced fuel burn. The rest is reduction in cargo
