  2. loading response
  3. mid-stance
  4. terminal stance
  5. pre-swing

Swing phase:

  1. toe-off
  2. mid-swing

What is the windlass mechanism?

A

When the hallux extends the arch of the foot is lifted. During walking, when the heel lifts up the hallux extends.
- Allows for shock absorption

What is trendelenburg gait? What causes it? Which phase is it most prominent in?

A

Contralateral hip drop caused by weak hip adductors, gluteus medius and minimus, on the opposite side.
Can affected due to problem with the superior gluteal nerve.

What is a gluteus maximus lurch? What causes it? ** not finished

A

Torso moves posteriorly during heel strike.
Gluteus maximus is weak and cant prevent excessive flexion at the hip. Torso moves backward to move the moment arm of gluteus maximus close to the hip.
Can be due to damage to the inferior gluteal nerve.
