(6 cards)
1
Q
What is a gear?
A
pair of wheels with teeth that interlink. More than one interlocking gear is a gear train.
2
Q
What is the driver gear?
A
gear that has force applied to it from outside the gear train. Transfers force to driven gear.
3
Q
What are parallel gears?
A
when 2 gears in a gear train are the same size
4
Q
What is the reducing gear?
A
the driving gear is smaller and has fewer teeth than the driven gear, decreasing the turning speed in a device
5
Q
What is the multiplying gear?
A
when the driving gear is larger than the driven gear. Increasing the speed of rotation in a device
6
Q
How did the egg beaters change the direction of force?
A
attaching perpendicularly to each other
