Gen Chem Review Flashcards
(7 cards)
heat of fusion
solid to liquid (energy required)
heat of vaporization
liquid to gas (lots of energy required)
vapor pressure
at a given temp for a molecule, the pressure at which you have an equal number of things vaporizing as coming back down to liquid.
Kinetic energy is a function of ___ and ___.
mass and velocity.
Ideal gas equation
PV = nRT
Pressure x Volume = (number of paricles)x(some constant R)x(Temperature)
An ideal gas is one where the molecules aren’t concerned with each other, just themselves. So, don’t attract or repel, and actual volume is inconsequential.
Bronsted-Lowry Acids
donate a hydrogen ion (proton).
A weak acid does not completely ionize; at equilibrium, there are appreciable quantities of un-ionized acid molecules present. Therefore, it is a weak electrolyte (not as good a conductor). Reactant-favored reaction.
Strong acids ionize completely and are good conductors.
Bronsted-Lowry Bases
accept a hydrogen ion (proton).
