General anaesthetics Flashcards
(3 cards)
SevoFlo liq. inh.
AS: Sevoflurane. Inhalation anaesthetic (volatile liquid).
I: For induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia in dogs.
CI: Do not use in pregnant or lactating bitches, with know or suspected genetic susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia and in dogs less than 12 weeks old.
D: The Minimum Alveolar Consentration (MAC) of sevoflurane in dogs is 2,36%. Multiples of MAC are used as a guide for surgical levels of anaesthesia, which are typically 1,3 to 1,5 times the MAC value.
Isoflurane
AS: Isoflurane. Inhalation anaesthetic (volatile liquid).
I: For induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia in horses, dogs, cats and ornamental birds.
CI: Not to be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to inhalation agents.
Not to be used in horses intended for human consumption.
D: MAC is 1,31% in adult horses, 1,28% in dogs, 1,68% in cats and 1,34% in birds.
Halothane
AS: Halothane. Inhalation anaesthetic (volatile liquid).
I: Induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia in horses, domestic animals and non-domestic mammals, birds and reptiles.
CI: MLignant hyperthermia has been reported in dogs and horses, but its incidence is rare. Halothabe sensitises the heart to catecholamines and the use of adrenaline should be avoided where possible. Halothane delays involution of the uterus following ceasarean section.
Not for use in animals intended for human consumption.
D: Small animals - Induction by 2-4% and maintenance 0,5-2%.
Horses (not for consumption) - Induction by short acting IV agent, 5-8% halothane to complete induction and maintenance 0,8-2%.
